A 42 year old woman from Brampton who was employed as a carer has admitted stealing cash from three elderly women whose homes she worked in.
Kathleen Warwick, of Gelt Road in the town, admitted three charges of theft when she appeared before Carlisle magistrates on Thursday.
The court heard that the defendant, who has no previous convictions, was employed by a company called Carlisle and Solway Carers. The financial abuse offences came to light when one of her clients, Joyce Sinclair, reported that her purse, contain
ing £110 cash, had gone missing from her handbag.
Police were called in and as a result Warwick was arrested and interviewed.
She fully admitted being the thief, and explained that she had also stolen from two other clients, taking £30 from a woman called Margaret Mathewson and £150 from Margaret Dalrymple.
She asked for two further offences to be taken into consideration.
When interviewed by police, the defendant said she had stolen the cash because she needed it to pay for electricity, petrol and cigarettes. She also had severe debt problems and her husband was unemployed.
Magistrates adjourned sentence until October 2.
