Mrs Wong & Her Two Carers

Mrs Wong became an appointeeship client of Money Carer after her youngest daughter contacted the team after a meeting with her local PCT. Although Mrs Wong does not read, write or speak English particularly well she had always managed her finances with the assistance of family members and in particular her youngest daughter.

Recently Mrs Wong suffered a fall and was submitted to hospital for a 2 month period as she was unable to walk due to her injuries. It became clear that Mrs Wong would need ongoing care if she were to remain in her own home after discharge from hospital. This was very important to Mrs Wong, as she had lived in her home for over 30 years and the idea of entering a residential care home did not appeal to her at all.

To support this her local authority arranged for Mrs Wong to receive an assessment of her care requirements and it was agreed that Mrs Wong would benefit from having carer support to assist with bathing and other physically demanding tasks. Additionally, it was identified that Mrs Wong would probably need assistance with dealing with paperwork and other administrative tasks due to her inability to read, write or speak English strongly.

As Mrs Wong's youngest daughter and her family would shortly be moving overseas permanently, it became clear that it would be difficult for her daughter to provide the everyday administrative assistance that had been at hand previously. This would also become more prevalent given the fact that Mrs Wong would be employing two domiciliary carers privately and would need to arrange for wage payments and additional administrative requirements as the employer of her carers.

After a consultation with a Money Carer advisor it was agreed that Mrs Wong would benefit from becoming a client of Money Carer.

Mrs Wong's personal account manager has arranged for her benefits to be paid into a secure account at R. James Hutcheon Solicitors along with her pension and some other income payments.

Mrs Wong's daughter and her mums personal account manager agreed on a budget plan together that enables all of her mum's bills to be managed and paid centrally by Money Carer. Mrs Wong's creditors, utility suppliers and all of her other billing organisations now send their statements and invoices directly to Mrs Wong's account manager who takes care of them as they arrive. Money Carer also ensures that Mrs Wong's home carer agency is paid correctly and on time in relation to her two domiciliary carers.

To assist Mrs Wong's home carers with everyday purchasing of food and other essentials, Money Carer have provided her two carers with expense cards which are topped up and managed by Money Carer centrally. The cards allow Mrs Wong's carers to buy food and other items using the MasterCard which saves them time and enables them to focus on delivering the physical care that they were hired to provide to Mrs Wong.

As Mrs Wong's daughter has direct contact with her mum's account manager she can stay in touch with her mum's financial situation as required. She also feels that her secure online account access to her mums Money Carer account provides her with extra piece of mind that her mum is in safe hands and is getting the best care possible given her imminent move overseas.
