Appointeeship - FAQ's

Can an appointee be nominated temporarily?

Appointeeship is a position that can be granted on either a temporary or permanent basis, based on a person’s circumstances. Capacity levels may be affected for those experiencing a period of short-term illness, or injury following an accident. Appointeeship can therefore temporarily be a means to make key financial decisions in the affected person’s best interests.

This primarily involves keeping the DWP informed of the individual’s accommodation (i.e. if they are in hospital) and capacity levels as the situation develops. Both of these things are likely to impact their benefit entitlement. By temporarily providing financial oversight, appointees can ease the situation by ensuring the individual does not suffer any hardship during this time.
