How do I apply to become a DWP appointee?
To apply to become an appointee, prospective parties must first have the basic information about a person and their circumstances. The application form (BF56) should then be submitted to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) alongside any relevant medical evidence. This form details the relevant information about those involved, as well as evidence of a dedicated appointeeship bank account. These accounts can easily be opened through our tailored banking platform, Monika.
For non-professional appointees, this form will usually be filled in during an appointment with a DWP Visiting Officer. After enquiring about becoming an appointee, the DWP will send out one of their officers to assess the suitability of the service, and the person intending to take on the role. By evaluating the level of trust between parties, as well as the intentions and competence of the nominated individual, the officer will decide whether approval can be granted. Unless they have any concerns, they should confirm this with you by filling in a BF56 application form.
When this application has been approved by the DWP, you will receive a letter detailing their decision (BF57). This further outlines the expectations and requirements of the role. The BF57 document also provides the appointee with an admissible authority to liaise with other parties relevant to the individual. This could be anyone from utility providers to local councils.
