What are the costs involved in setting up an LPA?
When registering an LPA, the standard fee is £92 per role. Lasting Powers of Attorney cover property and financial affairs, as well as health and welfare matters. If someone wishes for their attorney to manage both, this will amount to £184 total.
However, if the donor (the person registering the LPA) has a gross annual income below £12,000, they may qualify for a 50% fee reduction, bringing the cost down to £46 per LPA.
Those receiving certain means-tested benefits may be eligible for a full exemption from the registration fees. To apply for a fee reduction or exemption, you must submit an LPA120 form along with supporting evidence to the Office of The Public Guardian (OPG).
In certain cases, there may be additional fees incurred. If the initial registration contains errors, a reduced fee of £41 is charged per re-application. As well as this, to obtain an official copy of the LPA, there is a fee of £35.
To manage ongoing financial responsibilities associated with an LPA agreement, it is advised that you open a dedicated account. Through our specialised banking platform, Monika, those who require these services can open an account designed for this very purpose.
