The ‘Light Touch’ Appointeeship Plan

Ensuring essential bills are paid and maximising independence.

Our ‘Light Touch’ appointeeship plan has been designed to provide a higher level of autonomy and independence for clients who need less intervention in their everyday money management affairs but would benefit from ensuring that they are receiving the welfare benefits they are entitled to and their most important bills are paid for them.

Money Carer receives lots of referrals from local authority social workers and care providers for people who do not have the capacity to reasonably manage their welfare benefit payments and administrative responsibilities however, do have a lot of ability to manage other aspects of daily money management.

In consultation with our referring partners, we have introduced a low-cost ‘light touch’ appointeeship plan to better cater for the needs of these individuals. This plan represents a balance between providing a necessary level of support to ensure priority bills are paid and promoting greater client independence by transferring the majority of the client’s money to them (on a daily basis if preferred) after their important bills have been paid.

The ‘Light Touch’ Appointeeship Plan £62.50/month

• Individual FSCS-protected client bank account opened for welfare benefit payments and ongoing management

• Money Carer appointeeship security bond in place to protect client funds*

• Separate rent management account opened where rent payments need to be managed

• Carer shopping cards and funding available where required

• Client personal spending account opened with a payment card provided

• Payment of essential bills including rent, gas, electricity, water, TV licence and care costs

• Remaining client income distributed after essential bills are paid, with payments spread as required (including daily allowances if needed)

• Liaison with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) regarding all welfare benefit matters

• Benefit entitlement checks to ensure correct benefit payments are received

• Liaison with local authorities and landlords regarding housing benefit and rent payments

• Creation of a personal spending budget for the client

• Secure online and smartphone app access for clients, carers and social workers where required

• Ability to arrange emergency or scheduled payments via PayPoint vouchers or CashbyText

• Read-only online account access available for trusted family members (subject to agreement)

• Ongoing support from the Money Carer team via phone, email and secure messaging
