Further Innovation for Attorneys and Deputies from Money Carer
Money Carer has further enhanced its dedicated Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) banking and document management service, significantly benefiting attorneys appointed by Donors across the UK.
This follows Money Carer’s pioneering launch of the UK’s first dedicated Power of Attorney Management Account in 2024. The improved service now features a dedicated website, available at www.lpa.co.uk.
The service will support advocacy of LPA’s being set up by qualified solicitors as best practice and central to these new enhancement’s is further integration into Money Carer’s robust money management platform, Monika, which is already trusted and used every day by approximately 300 solicitor law firms and local authorities for managing client finances.
In the last 12 months, the Monika platform was used to process more than half a billion pounds of transactions on behalf of Money Carer and legal and local authority partners. Lay attorneys and deputies now have access to this transparent, cloud-based solution, ensuring complete and tailored visibility of all financial transactions and account activities.
Multi-Attorney Payment Authentication Transparency Safeguard Tools
A standout feature is the customisable authorisation system, allowing donors to define specific approval rules for transactions—whether dual, triple, or even quadruple authorisation. This flexibility empowers donors to precisely control the financial decisions their attorneys can make, either individually or jointly and severally.
Money Carer’s service uniquely includes access to the Current Account Switch Service, enabling seamless migration of everyday operational banking accounts from high street banks within just seven days. Coupled with Open-Banking technology, attorneys gain a consolidated view of all the donor’s financial assets, including bank accounts, savings, and investments, all conveniently in one place.
The platform will also enable attorneys to easily open a wide range of savings accounts via a partnership with Insignis so that held balances can benefit from interest payments with full visibility of the Donors overall financial status within the platform.
Additionally, the Monika platform incorporates comprehensive document storage functionality, securely archiving essential documents such as correspondence from the Office of the Public Guardian, Wills, Deeds, pension statements, DWP letters, bills, and more. Attorneys can effortlessly access these vital documents via a secure online portal or the dedicated Money Carer smartphone app.
Automatic OPG Annual Supervision Report Completion for Lay Deputies
For those individuals with deputyship responsibilities who will be required to submit an annual report to the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG), the platform will automatically complete the majority of the report for the deputies and will prompt them to record ‘Significant Decisions’ at the point of making purchases. These features are already used by the platforms professional deputy users and will be a much-welcomed resource for lay deputies with less experience in completing the annual return.
Supporting the Donors ‘Circle of Care’
Recognising the practical needs of daily care support, the platform enables attorneys to issue Money Carers secure biometric payment cards for support workers, carers or family members responsible for routine shopping tasks on behalf of donors to ensure enhanced transparency and convenience.
Further enhancing financial protection, Money Carer integrates directly with the Land Registry and includes an irregular transaction safeguarding alert system, promptly notifying members within the donor’s circle of care about any suspicious financial activity. The built in Calander and alerts functions provide additional, practical support for everyone involved in supporting the Donor.
